Some Complications May Occur From Gastric Bypass SurgeryAlthough numerous patients have few problems after gastric bypass surgery, there is still the potential for complications, both small and large, just as there is with any surgical procedure. Minor complications could include dietary intolerance, hair loss, dry skin, menstrual irregularities, or hurting. Other complications that may occur include dumping, stenosis, a narrowing of the gastric pouch's outlet, vitamin or mineral deficiencies and anemia, gallstones, and puking caused by stretching the pouch. There are even more serious risks involved, ones that will need emergency attention, include bleeding, blood clots, infection, leakage of stomach acids, intestine obstructions, or hernia. Additional surgeries might be needed to correct any health problems that occur because of these complications. Of course, like in any surgery, death is a risk as well, although the risk is less than 1 percent. Patients with a really high bmi and/or severe medical conditions are at the highest risk, but death could also occur in any patient. Even though substantial weight loss occurs for nearly all gastric bypass surgery patients, regaining the weight is as well a risk. Patients who do not maintain their lifestyle changes and eating behaviors may fall back into old habits and find that the scale is beginning to crawl back up. Although significant weight gain after the initial weight loss is fairly infrequent, those who do experience it can have feelings of failure and depression. Many who have had the procedure done are aware of the big changes they have to make in their diet and lifestyle. The surgery is about helping patients lose the weight that often brings on diseases. Gastric bypass surgery is shown to be a simple low risk procedure with excellent outcomes. People who have tried and failed other weight loss options, including diet and exercise modification may benefit from gastric bypass. When considering this as an option for weight loss, be sure to do a lot of research. This is only a snippet For more click here
